In a shocking move, Trackmagic released to EKN that they have signed Mike Speed as the 2008 Trackmagic factory race team manager. The two-time EKN Awards Mechanic of the Year will bring drivers Alex Speed and Will Martindale to the program. Speed, a two-time ICC national champion, will run the ICC division with SwedeTech Maxter power, while Martindale will be running in the TaG class with support from WunderBar. Both will contend the full Stars of Karting national schedule.
Mike Speed will guide the R & D department as well as testing for all Trackmagic chassis. His longstanding reputation for excellence is sure to be a winning combination with Trackmagic owner Andrew Alfonso’s desire to offer the best possible racing product. “Andrew’s enthusiasm and vision for Trackmagic is something I knew I could get behind,” says Speed.
According to Mike, the Speeds' return to Trackmagic seems like a homecoming. “Trackmagic was Scott and Alex’s first sponsor,” explains Mike. “They both won their first national championships with Trackmagic; Scott in Jr. 1 and Alex in Jr. 60 shifters. We’re all so happy to be able to return to our karting roots."
“This is an exciting opportunity for Trackmagic,” says Alfonso, co-owner of Trackmagic. “One of my goals since taking over Trackmagic has been to work with the Speeds. Scott and I grew up racing together, and I am no stranger to Mike’s work ethic and dedication. Alex’s winning record speaks for itself. He’s incredibly talented and I will enjoy watching him in black and yellow. I have been following Will Martindale and have seen his skills develop over the years. He’s a nationally ranked TaG class driver and has a great shot at bringing Trackmagic a number of wins this season."
Mike adds Trackmagic to a list of experiences he is grateful for, “I would especially like to thank the Lobaugh family at MRP, Ronni Sala at Birel and TM for their support and for allowing me to pursue this great opportunity with Trackmagic.”
“I feel confident that the Trackmagic/Speed partnership is a perfect fit,” says Alfonso. “It continues our efforts for American ingenuity and further insures our commitment of offering the highest quality, American designed kart chassis”.
